Half way through the year

Checking in on those New Years resolutions.

In January, I shared some of my goals for the year, and asked you to hold me accountable. I also offered to do the same for you, and a few of you responded. Now that we’re just past the halfway point through the year, I’ll be following up individually with each of you who shared your goals with me.

Today, I’m going to share my progress on the goals I set out at the first of the year.

  • I will launch a new online course about software development

On this one, technically, I’m failing. My initial plan was to launch a course at the beginning of Q2, and that did not happen. There are a few reasons. Largely, it was due to a lackluster response when I posted about some of the course ideas to my network. It seems likely the demand for the courses I had in mind doesn’t (yet) exist. Second, I’ve had a lot less time to focus on content creation than I did at the beginning of the year, as I’ve taken on two new clients starting in April. This goal isn’t completely dead, but it’s back-burnered at least.

This launch was successful. The list currently has 208 subscribers, and I’ve been getting good feedback! The main focus on this list is going through the Go Language Specification, point-by-point, and breaking it down to be easy to understand. If that sounds interesting to you, it’s never too late to sign up!

  • I will reach 3,000 subscribers on my new YouTube channel, Boldly Go

And this one is well on its way. At the moment, I have 1,489 subscribers, so just under half way to my goal of 3,000. And growth is accelerating, so I fully expect to reach the goal by end of year!

Related to these goals, I also launched a new podcast, Cup o’ Go which just released it’s 20th episode this week. It’s another one for those interested in Go, so it won’t be for everyone reading this, but if you are interested in Go, check it out. I was hoping to maybe have 100 regular listeners by now, but we’re averaging over 400 listeners per episode, and we’ve even closed a corpoprate sponsorship for our most recent episodes (Thanks, Koyeb). So this one is doing far and above my wildest expectations!

How are your goals coming along for 2023?
