I was recently told a story about someone who’s director told them “We found a way that works best for us…” then went on to explain their 1-hour daily stand up routine.

I could go on and on about 1-hour stand-ups… but I won’t.

Instead, I want to focus on that opening phrase: “We found a way that works best for us…”

Have you really?

How do you know?

Did you try all the ways before settling on this one?

Of course not. Nor should you. We can’t try all the ways for most things. But just the same… be wary of phrases like this. These phrases are designed to end conversations.
