Why I'm not worried about AI

AI will take all our jobs! AI will destroy the software development industry! Or not.

AI will take all our jobs! AI will destroy the software development industry!

I’m not worried.

Two reasons:

  1. Most companies are still using practices and technologies from 20 years ago. And doing it very poorly. If a company can’t even embrace OLD technologies in smart way, there’s no risk of them embracing new ones.

  2. The hard part of programming has never been the writing of the code. It’s solving problems. Talking to customers to understand what they need. Inventing novel solutions. AI can’t do that. At least not yet, or any time in the near future.
